Have you planned a special Mother's Day menu?
April 30 2015
Mother's Day is just around the corner. In Canada, the holiday falls on the second Sunday of May every year, which means that this year it's on Sunday, May 10th.
While everyone celebrates the special day with their mom differently, one of the most popular ways to mark the occasion is with a big bouquet of flours and meal out at a favourite restaurant.
For restaurateurs, this can mean a surge in customers, so why not treat your guests to some limited-time specials? It's a great opportunity to offer something different from the norm, making the moms feel even more spoiled and giving you the chance to bump up your sales even more.
But what should you include on your Mother's Day menu? Here are a few ideas:
- Brunch - This is a classic Mother's Day meal, as it's a sociable and indulgent way to spend a late morning. Even if you don't normally offer a brunch menu, consider including it for this one day. Favourite dishes include Eggs Benedict, English muffins smothered in butter and honey, quiche and toasted bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Don't forget to offer a selection of drinks too - Mimosas are a popular choice for brunch.
- Lunch - For the lunchtime crowd on Mother's Day, consider light but flavourful dishes that also provide plenty of visual impact. How about a wild mushroom risotto or a salad with pan-fried shrimp, arugula and roasted tomatoes?
- Afternoon tea - A great way to spoil Mom on her special day is to take her to afternoon tea. Offer a selection of bite-sized cakes, scones and little sandwiches cut into triangles. Serve everything up on a pretty cake stand and don't forget to provide a varied selection of teas and coffees.
- Dinner - For dinner, why not consider offering a two- or three-course prixe fixe menu? This is a great way to up sales while adding value to your customers. Include a few unusual flavours in the options you provide, giving diners the chance to try something new. You could even offer a glass of wine or a cocktail with each meal.
